This might be a good place to remind you
that we want to add candid comments from the bands, other crew
members and the audience. Your comments are welcome.
Here’s another example, even though
I couldn’t find a program for any Bo Diddley show: Ira
Bourstein—who was one of my all-time all-star follow-spot
operators—was totally blown away by Bo Diddley’s
performance at Convention Hall in Asbury Park. He kept looking
for wah-wah pedals and synthesizers and all that, but
couldn’t see any because there weren’t any. He
asked over the intercom how Bo made all that sound without
wah-wahs and synthesizers and I suggested that he ask Bo.
After the show, Ira approached me while hanging out at stage
left and asked the same question. Just then, Bo Diddley walked
out on stage to collect his guitar and I prodded Ira to ask
him. Bo, only slightly befuddled and only for a moment, moved
his hands back and forth in little arcs and said, “with
these”.
I love rock’n’roll.
Also, if you noticed that the sixth
program in this panel (red border) is missing a masthead of any
kind, then you may realize that we have a cover without a
program! Since I am a lazy Pisces, the cover didn’t
happen without a concert—but what concert, when and
where? Probably the Plasmatics. If you know, please contact me.
