Bands: Jerry Garcia Band
Venue: On The Boardwalk at Asbury
Park, Convention Hall
Date: July 26, 1980
Quality: Uncirculated program; Cover
art.
Comments: Convention Hall was an
acoustical nightmare. The stage was way too small. The
projection booth wasn’t air conditioned. But the
hospitality was great and the view of the Atlantic while the
crew ate their meals was delightful. We had fun.
Four bottles of that 1971 vintage
bottle of Chateau Moyssi were placed next to the Dom Perignon
on the Hospitality table. At one point, I heard Steve Parish
bellow “Moyssi! This’s the best goddam raisin jack
I ever had!” The only people in the world who know about
raisin jack are Navy guys—but NOBODY ages raisin jack for
9 years and I mean NOBODY! (There was a reason for the name at
the bottom of the bottle and it had something to do with a
missing decimal point in the instructions from the Chemistry
Department at Harvard, but time apparently heals all wounds and
that’s another story for another page on this website...)
