anyone? The ad above is memorable because it’s a 2-page
spread—unimaginable riches for our concert
program—and a historic reminder that WNEW was the radio
station that changed the nature of radio from Top-40 to long
format music while spawning a legion of radio personalities.
Among them are Dennis Elsas, Pete Fornatale and Vin Scelsa who
can all be heard on WFUV now.
WNEW broadcast many shows live from the
Capitol Theatre. That was long before broadband Internet, so a
telephone crew was necessary to locate and connect a series of
data-capable lines all the way from the Capitol in Passaic to
New York City for every broadcast.
